Well the numbers are in for Kings.
Nikki Finke tells us in her blog Deadline Hollywood Daily that Kings bombed in the Nielsen ratings on Sunday night.
She writes “… By now you’ve seen the ratings reportsĀ about Kings pulling inĀ horrible numbers — a 1.6 rating/4 share in 18-49 demographics, and 6 million viewers overall. “
She tells us “I’m told NBC Universal spent a whopping $10 million on Sunday’s two-hour opener for Kings and another $4 million per episode. That’s a staggering amount of money to lavish on any drama series, especially one that’s a bomb.

Hmmm? $10,000,000 for the season premiere eh? $113,000 per running minute.
What are others saying?
The Hollywood Reporter‘s James Hibberd’s headline screams
“NBC’s ‘Kings’ dethroned in ratings“.
He goes on to say ” NBC’s ‘Kings’ had a devastating premiere Sunday night.”
“Despite generally positive reviews, with some calling the project the most original new drama of the season, ‘Kings’ (6 million viewers, 1.6 preliminary adults 18-49 rating and 4 share) was the lowest-rated program between 8 and 11 p.m. on a major broadcast network…”
“Nobody expected “Kings,” an allegorical story retelling “King David” in modern times, to break from the gate as a major hit — especially after the network moved the show from its originally planned slot of Thursdays at 10 p.m. to Sundays at 8 p.m. But neither did observers expect a fully budgeted scripted drama with a standard marketing push to open to this modest a number. One would think viewers would at least be curious.”
